Align

The Align tool allows you to align a target mesh with respect to a reference mesh using two modes: Automatic and Manual. The selected meshes must belong to different groups.

Step by step

1️⃣ Open the Align tool by clicking the second button on the Proocolos IA bar.

2️⃣ Choose automatic or manual alignment mode. Manual mode is mandatory if you want to use a wax-up.

3️⃣ Select the reference mesh and the target mesh. They will be highlighted in green and brown respectively.

Automatic alignment

1️⃣ Once the meshes are selected, press Following, wait for the calculation to finish and review the preview of the result and accept or cancel as appropriate.

2️⃣ If you wish, you can consult the distance report by clicking on Show report.

Manual alignment

1️⃣ Once the meshes are selected, adjust the position/orientation of the target mesh with respect to the reference mesh so that they look good and you can correctly annotate the points. As seen in the following video, drag the mouse to move the mesh and rotate it with Ctrl+drag.

2️⃣ By double clicking, mark at least 3 corresponding points on both meshes and click Following.

3️⃣ Pulsa Following, wait for the calculation to finish, review the preview of the result and accept or cancel as appropriate. If you want, you can also check the distance report.

ℹ️ FAQs

1. What do I do if the result provided by manual alignment is unstable?

Try to place more keypoints and/or more distributed and avoid concentrating them in a single area such as on the same tooth.

2. What do I do if the result provided by automatic alignment is unstable?

Go to manual alignment with 4-6 quality points.

3. Why can’t I select a wax-up as a reference or target mesh?

A wax-up can only be used in manual alignment.

4. Why can’t I align two meshes that are in the same group?

The alignment must be done between meshes of different groups. As they are grouped, the alignment transformation will affect all the meshes in the group. You can find more detailed information about groups HERE.
